A challenging curriculum is offered for all students in a nurturing, arts-rich environment that accelerates language arts, math, science, and social studies. Literature and creative writing are the cornerstones of our language arts program. Emphasis is placed on a hands-on, problem-solving approach in math and science, while history and problem-solving develop a solid foundation of social studies.

Recognized twice as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, South Highlands is Louisiana's first arts-integration school. This approach to teaching allows students the opportunity to construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process that connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both. South Highlands is the only school in the nation that has been designated as the George Rodrigue Arts Integration Lab School.
